R.I.P 2014?

R.I.P 2014?

With another lost (but hopeful) season almost in the books, the New York Mets and their fanbase received some devastating news today as it was revealed that Matt Harvey has a partially torn UCL and will miss the remainder of this season.  He will possibly require Tommy John surgery which will most likely eliminate him from pitching in the 2014 season as well.  That is not written in stone yet but these are the Mets and usually the worst case scenario is the safest bet to make. Most fans reactions were sad, but optimistic that he will heal in a timely fashion.  Most  people though see this as the end of any chance of being a good team in 2014 and while that is understandable it doesn’t have to be that way.   Read the rest of this entry »

While everyone this morning is talking about Miley twerking, we at TSB are going to act grown. Well, that’s not completely true. I don’t speak for everyone at Total Sports Blog but when I’m not at work, I only act my age half the time. Also, we posted a blog post about Miley twerking last night. Also, I’m sure some people at TSB is still talking about Twerk-gate. But we’re never completely honest, all of the time. And that is how Breaking Bad started off last night. With Todd leaving a voicemail on Walter White’s phone but in a tone of voice that softly says “No big deal” (it totally seems like it will be) while glossing over a couple things as well as him telling his Uncle and his cohort about the train job of last season while over-exaggerating a couple points and leaving out some key ones. It was a perfect way to start off an episode that was about Walter telling strings of half-lies in the form of confessions in order to keep the fabric of his reality together….but all things fall apart. Fantasy Football is an American past time. Well not really, but it’s getting so popular that almost every fan across the country participates in some sort of Fantasy Football league.

While your first and second round picks may end up being your best two players, it is usually the guys you draft in the 9th-16th rounds that separate your team from the rest. Everyone’s top two or three guys are productive, but it’s the manager that can find the best sleepers that usually win.

With that being said, here are the biggest Fantasy Football sleepers for each position.

Miley Cyrus Twerking VMAs

I’m not one to watch MTV’s Video Music Awards, aka the VMA’s. But while cruising through the twittersphere, I was reading that Miley Cyrus was twerking on Robin Thicke. So I had to check this out.

I get the fact that Miley is about to turn 21 or something, but she had to be beyond wasted. Yeah it’s MTV, it’s an awards show, I get it. But jeez, cool out with the thirst for the “D”. A 21-year-old pop-star shouldn’t be twerking on a married man. And I hate to break it to you Miley, Robin Thicke’s wife is drop dead gorgeous. So you’ve not no chance.

Matt Kenseth shook of an early penalty and held off Kasey Kahne for 12 laps to hang on and win Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Kahne, who won in the spring, tried numerous times over the final dozen laps to make the pass but never could get it to stick. On the last lap, he went for the bump and run and missed.

Kenseth’s win in the IRWIN Tools Night Race was the fifth of the season, most in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. With the win, he clinches a spot in the Chase for the Championship, which starts in three weeks at Chicagoland Speedway.  Read the rest of this entry »

The San Diego Chargers finished the 2012 season with a 7-9 record.

During the offseason, the Chargers fired head coach Norv Turner and brought in Mike McCoy from the Broncos to be their new head coach. The Chargers also signed running back Danny Woodhead, defensive end Dwight Freeney, cornerback Derek Cox, and offensive linemen Max Starks and Chad Rinehart.

To make room for these new players, San Diego parted ways with guard Louis Vasquez, defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin, linebackers Shaun Phillips and Takeo Spikes, and defensive backs Quentin Jammer, Atari Bigby and Antoine Cason.

With McCoy running the show in San Diego now, the team is looking to return to relevancy in the AFC. Here is the Chargers’ 2013-2014 season preview. Read the rest of this entry »

2802Jonah Keri of ESPN tweeted out this wicked awesome video of Colorado Rockies first base coach, Rene Lachemann, lecturing a young Phillies fan during Wednesday night’s game.

The lecture started when Lachemann gave the young boy a souvenir baseball between innings and then went on a typical run of “be a good kid”tips, including “don’t pee on the toilet seat” and “do your homework.”

After the jump, check out the video and let me know what you think.

Saturday, August 24th is National Draft Day at Buffalo Wild Wings.  If you hold your draft at your local B-Dubs bar/restaurant, they’ll hook you up with a free draft board, koozies, brag flag, and $100 in free food* (ten $10 coupons to be used at a later date).  But before you make that reservation, you’re going to need a draft strategy.  That’s why I’m here, to help you draft the best possible fantasy football team in 2013. The Minnesota Vikings finished the 2012 season with a 10-6 record, and ended up losing to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round of the NFC Playoffs.

Minnesota had a busy offseason, and ended up with three first round picks in the 2013 NFL draft. Minnesota also brought in quarterback Matt Cassel, wide receiver Greg Jennings, cornerback Jacob Lacey, and linebacker Desmond Bishop this offseason.

The Vikings parted ways with wide receiver Percy Harvin and cornerback Antoine Winfield, two key pieces on their team last season.
