I’m Sorry San Antonio

May 28, 2013 by

Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan

It takes a real man to admit when he is completely wrong, suck up his pride, and apologize.

With that being said, I owe a massive apology to the entire San Antonio Spurs franchise.

14 lead changes. 11 cautions. 2 red flags. It was a crazy night at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

In the end it was Kevin Harvick who won a wild Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday night, holding off Kasey Kahne and Kurt Busch in an 11 lap shootout. The win is Harvick’s second of the 2013 season, his last for Richard Childress Racing.

Harvick came in and took two tires on the last caution, while Kahne, who had the fastest car of the night, stayed out. Definitely showing that new tires will win every time.

“Charlotte is something we had to overcome for a long time,” Harvick said. “We had to win it on gas mileage before. We just went out and won it this time. Read the rest of this entry »

Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez once again putting his belt on the line as he gets ready to face Antonio “Big Foot” Silva tonight at UFC 160.

In the co-main event, former heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos is looking to get another title shot, but he’ll have to beat the heavy-handed Mark Hunt to get his chance.

Will we see a Velasquez/dos Santos rematch in the next heavyweight title fight, or can the two underdogs pull the upset and crash the party?

Minnesota Twins v Detroit Tigers

Follow @D_Schmelzer on Twitter.

The reigning AL MVP and Triple Crown winner, Miguel Cabrera has had an awesome start to the 2013 season. He has  a .391 average, 14 homeruns and 55 RBI. If he keeps this up, he could be on his way to another Triple Crown. I came across this amazing GIF of Cabrera hitting 6 homeruns at the same time. It is similar to the Yu Darvish one I wrote about a while back.

Sydney Esiason and Boomer

Even though she dating New York Islanders tough guy, Matt Martin, she’ll always be Boomer Esiason’s daughter.  The Boston College junior is kinda hot.  Thanks to a tip from a friend of mine and the internet, we found a few photos of this week’s Total Sports Babe.  Check out some pictures of Sydney, who seems to be your typical coed (except for having an NFL legend for a father and a professional hockey player for a fiancée):

San Francisco 49ers’ Wide Receiver Michael Crabtree went down with a torn Achilles tendon on Tuesday. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh said that the injury occured in 7-on-7 drills, “He was coming in motion, just planted, started a route and felt like somebody kicked him in Achilles,” Harbaugh said. Obviously, this is a big loss for the 49ers, as Crabtree had a great rapport with quarterback Colin Kaepernick down the stretch last season and appeared to be headed towards a breakout season. Somebody will have to step up and produce for the 49ers, who could that be?

NBA Mock Draft 1.0

May 23, 2013 by

1. Cleveland Cavaliers: Nerlens Noel

College: Kentucky/Age: 19/HT: 6’11″/WT: 205 lbs/POS: C

Otto Porter is the perfect fit here for Cleveland, but I doubt they’d pull the trigger on him with the first overall pick. Even with his injury concerns, Noel would be a nice fit with this Cavs team. Pair him up with Anderson Varejao and Tristan Thompson and you have a very nice young front line to go with Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters.

2. Orlando Magic: Trey Burke
College: Michigan/Age: 20/HT: 6’1″/WT: 190 lbs/POS: PG

Orlando needs a star, but there is a serious lack of star power in this year’s draft class. Burke is the one prospect whom everyone thinks is guaranteed to turn into a very solid NBA player. Burke is a great leader, and could potentially be the ring leader for the young Magic core or Tobias Harris, Nikola Vuvecic, and Mo Harkless.

Roger Goodell and the NFL are once again contemplating the idea of expanding the NFL season to 18 games.

Here’s what Goodell said Tuesday morning at the NFL’s spring owners meetings in Boston.

“I hear from fans consistently that they want to make every NFL event more valuable. They see the preseason as being less valuable to them because they don’t see the best players and the games do not count. We have to address that, whether we are looking at 18 [regular-season games] and two [preseason games] or 16-and-two and expanded playoffs.”

But the thing is, the NFL is already a great product. It doesn’t need to be tinkered with or changed.

THE PLAYERS Championship - Round Three

It was the joke that went too far. Before Sergio Garcia’s racial comment, the media battle between Tiger Woods and Garcia was almost comical. They were going back and forth taking shots at each other. Woods called Garcia a whiner and Garcia responded by telling the media, “That’s probably right,” and he went on to say “It’s also probably the first thing he’s (Woods) told you guys that’s true in 15 years. I know what he is like. You guys are finding out.” Now while those comments were a little harsh, it still remained a silly argument. Read the rest of this entry »
