It was previously revealed that the Charlotte Bobcats would be changing their name from the Bobcats to the Hornets. After the announcement was made, the question was what will the new logo look like? Will it be the old logo that the Hornets used to have or will it be something new?
At the game last night, Micheal Jordan made an announcement to the Charlotte fans that the logo has been decided. Their logo is no longer the old hornet with a smile on it’s face. There is a new logo. The new logo goes with ownerships plan to focus on certain characteristics of a hornet which is “swarming, attacking and protective.”
The changes will take place in the 2014-2015 season. The team colors will be the teal and purple that the original Hornets team wore. The new logo resembles a fierceness and sharpness about it. Charlotte ownership and their fan base are hoping that the fierceness and sharpness will equal a winning team. The franchise has only had one winning season since 2004 and the team’s merchandise sales have been awful. The new team name should greatly help merchandise sales considering the Hornets name has been established by previous teams. With a new team name and logo, this may be what Charlotte needs to establish themselves as a successful organization.
