MTV’s The Challenge Free Agents Episode 11 “The $350,000 Pyramid” Recap, Reactions, And Fantasy Scoring

TotalSportsBlog 9 years ago 11 Min Read

n tonight’s episode of MTV’s The Challenge Free Agents, “The $350,000 Pyramid”, we join last week’s elimination challenge that is about to take place.  We have Leroy vs CT and Cara Maria vs Laurel, ready to play Wrecking Wall. This is the one where the competitors need to climb up a sheet rock wall by punching/kicking/elbowing holds into it, and then ring a bell at the top.

The guys were the first ones to go.  CT and Leroy are two real big dudes, so punching holes into the sheet rock shouldn’t be a problem.  What I was interested in seeing was how the sheet rock would hold up with the amount of weight each guy would be putting into the holes.  Leroy and CT each have to weigh nearly 225 lbs.  At the start, both guys had no problems at all.  CT was moving much faster, but Leroy said every time he was grabbing into the holes, the sheet rock was just crumbling in his hands. At the end of the day CT was just a man on a mission and won easily. As for the girls, there was no way in hell that Cara Maria should have even been competing in this event for multiple reasons. The fact that she’s already won 3 eliminations was on the back burner, especially since she now has a full-blown cast on her hand. Watching her struggle so mightily to put holes in the sheet rock was so depressing. Not that I thought she had any chance on beating Laurel, but it would have been a much better match. Laurel basically just flew up the wall and left Cara in the dust. When the challenge was over, Laurel went over to Cara Maria and gave her a hug and said she was sorry. Presumably about the way she treated her the last two weeks. After the challenges were over, TJ informs the remaining eight competitors that they are headed to the Andes Mountains.

Upon arriving in Chile, the eight remaining competitors (CT, Johnny, Bananas, Zach, Laurel, Devyn, Theresa, and Nany) run into their lake front house like kids in a candy store. It’s more of a fancy log cabin, obviously with the amenities like a hot tub and a pool, but they never spend much time there anyway.

When they all arrive at the next challenge site, TJ informs them that this is actually the final draw. Cue the suspenseful music. That’s right, two people just traveled to Chile just to turn over a card and then go home, with nothing in their pockets.

Draw Results:
Zach – Safe
Johnny – Safe
CT & Bananas – Kill Cards

Nany – Safe
Devyn – Safe
Laurel & Theresa – Kill Cards.

Both times in the draw, the first two competitors pulled blanks, sending the other two remaining to the draw. Tonight’s elimination final was a puzzle. Seriously? To go to the finals, a puzzle? Bad job by the producers on this one. Especially with the four best competitors winding up facing each other. Wouldn’t you rather see CT and Bananas facing off in a physical challenge? Oh wait, I don’t think Bananas wants to do that one. The challenge was actually a race to finish three puzzles. The first one was taking all the pieces and just fitting them all into a square. We’ve seen it a million times, but it still gives them a ton of trouble. The second puzzle was to take all the tiles and put them together so that, when put together correctly, there would be one make one continuous line drawn on top of them. And finally, in the third puzzle, there were nine tiles labeled 1 through 9, and they needed to be arranged so that they add up to 15 horizontally, vertically, and diagonally.

I really thought that Laurel was going to just smoke Theresa to be honest. Laurel is really good at these and Theresa seems to panic when it comes to puzzles. Which happened right of the bat. Laurel flew through the shapes and the line, while Theresa was having a small mental breakdown. Laurel was going about her merry way with putting the 15 puzzle together, when Theresa all of a sudden got her shit together and was standing right next to her at the final one. Right before cutting to commercial Theresa asks it her puzzle was right. Could should have pulled off the monster comeback? Nope. She wasn’t right, and Laurel figured it out soon after. Nice knowing you Theresa, stop the crying will you? With CT facing Bananas, I had CT with the slight advantage before it started. If Bananas has a krypnonite, it’s puzzles. Somehow CT manages to do very will with them. Yeah, I know. I don’t get it either. When they start, both of them just look like monkeys trying to jam these pieces together. But Bananas all of a sudden figures it out and the pieces all go into place. The same thing happens when he gets to the line puzzle. CT finally catches up, but Bananas is way ahead and figures out the 15 puzzle first. Sorry CT, it just wasn’t meant to be this time buddy.

Back at the house, the six finalists are sitting on the deck and just shooting the shit, when all of a sudden they start ganging up on Devyn about how she probably won’t be able to physically finish the final challenge. To be honest, I don’t think she will be able to either, but it got a little carried away. I honestly felt bad for her. She tells us not to under-estimate her, but I really have zero faith.

Let’s backtrack a little bit here. When the group got to the house, Bananas couldn’t help but notice that there was a giant volcano that was spewing out smoke, just beyond the other side of the lake. “There’s a reason why we can see that volcano”, he said. Well Mr. Bananas, you are right. In the morning, the finalists made their way to the start of the final challenge. Since this is Free Agents, nothing is going to be what is expected.

TJ explains the rules of the final challenge:
1. There are 5 stages
2. In the first 3 stages, there will be guy/girl teams
3. The final 2 stages will be individual
4. No one will have the same partner twice for the first 3 stages.
5. Add up all five times from all five stages to determine the winner.
6. The final stage is making it to the summit of that volcano.

The pairings for the first 3 stages:

Stage 1
Johnny/Nany
Zach/Devyn
Laurel/Bananas

Stage 2
Johnny/Laurel
Bananas/Devyn
Zach/Nany

Stage 3
Johnny/Devyn
Zach/Laurel
Bananas/Nany

Stage 1 is a kayak race. At the sound of the horn, everyone has to run out to the middle of the river and retrieve their paddles, then make it back to their kayaks which are at the starting line, then navigate the river and rapids. As expected, Bananas and Laurel have no problems at all and fly down the river. Not so close behind are Johnny and Nany, who don’t paddle too well and wind up going down the raging river backwards for most of the time. There there are Zach and Devyn. To say that Devyn is useless is the understatement of the century. The girl has no physical or mental abilities when it comes to these challenges. Granted, Zach is clearly frustrated and trying to do everything by himself, but anything she does do, IS COMPLETELY WRONG. Finally they get their asses to the rapids part of the river and the worst imaginable thing happens. They flip over. Zach goes flying out of the kayak, and Devyn somehow makes it safely over to some rocks. When the rescue boat comes over to help, no one can spot Zach. That’s because he’s flying down the river while getting dragged under the water. This is where the episode ends. Make sure to tune in next week to see who wins!
