The great people at HEAD Tennis were gracious enough to send us one of their newest racquets to test out.  After trying to wait out this crazy weather, we finally got it out on the court to see what the Graphine XT Radical MPA was all about.

“If a man is scared for his life, we can not force him to step inside and fight me.”

-Conor McGregor

The Notorious Conor McGregor said that about Jose Aldo when he pulled out of UFC 189, and I can’t wait to hear what he says about Rafael dos Anjos backing out of UFC 196 due to injury.  That makes 4 of the last 8 Conor McGregor opponents pulling out of their scheduled fight with the featherweight champion.  Enter UFC vet Nate Diaz, who has agreed to fight McGregor on short notice at 170lbs.  170!  That’s 2 weight classes above the featherweight division (145), and 15 lbs more than his scheduled lightweight (155) bout with dos Anjos.  Check out dos Anjos’ tweet regarding his injury after the jump: Read the rest of this entry »

Movie Review: Deadpool

Reading this review and plotting my demise.

It’s going to be hard to make sarcastic comments about a movie that went out of it’s way to make sarcastic comments about itself while also kind of mocking the entire superhero genre but I will try.  I saw “Deadpool” Monday because that’s how I like to celebrate President’s Day. I laughed a lot, and also cried a little but for unrelated reasons. Check out my mostly spoiler free review below!

The 2016 US election is among us. In the USA, you can’t go a minute on social media without hearing anything about the upcoming election, and the actual voting isn’t going to happen for another nine months! This year we see a combination of candidates like we’ve never seen before. In the right corner, weighing in at around 300 pounds, we have Donald Trump. In the left corner, we see Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. The odds at any online sportsbook are pointing strongly towards Trump winning the primary election for the Republicans, so it’s likely he goes up against Hillary Clinton or Sanders (it’s most likely to be Clinton). Colorful socks with designs on them are all the rage now, and ShockSocks claims to make the world’s best sublimated socks.  They sent me a few pairs to try out, and here’s my uncut and unbiased opinion:

Aesthetics: A

Quality: B

Comfort: B

Price/Value: B-

Overall: B

While ShockSocks come in 3 styles: ShockSocks Original, A-Game, and Nike Elite, I only tested out the ShockSocks Originals.  The first thing I noticed out of the gate was how vibrant the designs and colors were on these socks.  The detail is really incredible, and they definitely stand out.

The second thing I noticed was how thin these socks were.  You’re not going to want ShockSocks Original on during the cold Chicago winter.  These bad boys are for spring and summertime only.  I hope the A-Game socks are thicker, and I know the Nike Elite socks are- but those will run you about $18.50/pair.

What I liked most about the feel of ShockSocks Original was how they didn’t choke my feet.  Some socks from other brands are so thin that you feel like your lower shin down to your toes are being constricted.  That’s not the case with ShockSocks.  It seems they’ve actually taken the time to look at normal people’s feet and provided a product that will actually feel nice.  How innovative.

If you’re looking to make a statement, you can check out and place an order.  Their website isn’t very intuitive, and it takes some poking around to figure out how to customize your socks to your liking.  They also don’t explain the difference between the 3 types of socks you can order, so I’m very curious what the A-Game socks would be like.  Most socks run between $9.50-18.00, depending on what you pick out.

The Walking Dead is fucking back.  I’d have to check back to the episode with the big battle against the Governor and/or the episode where they had to leave Herschel’s farm, but I’m pretty sure more people and zombies die in this episode than ever.  Explosions, biters biting, zombie slaughtering, this episode had it all.  If you consider those spoilers, don’t read the rest of this post as it will include more specifics.  But if you’re interested (and you should be), read on. (LAST WARNING. THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS) Read the rest of this entry »

My haul on 2/12/16

My haul on 2/12/16

It’s NBA All-Star weekend in Toronto, and Nike is having a 4 day event from Thursday, 2/11/16 to Sunday, 2/14/16 in Toronto, LA, Chicago, and NYC.  The Nike SNKRS XPRESS is a reservation only event (reservations were gone in a matter of minutes) at the main Nike store in each of these cities.  I hear in Toronto they transformed a train car into a store, but living in Chicago I can only speculate from what I’ve seen/heard.  Info on this event has been hard to come by, as even Nike reps have been sworn to secrecy.  But I went to the event in Chicago yesterday.  And I’m going back today.  And Sunday.  This is what you can expect at the Nike SNKRS XPRESS if you were lucky enough to score a reservation: Read the rest of this entry »

The Carolina Panthers are a 5.5 point and -200 (bet $200 to win $100) favorite over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50, and rumors are the public thinks they’ll roll.  Anywhere from 70-80% of the money in Vegas is being bet on Cam Newton’s squad.  Maybe you don’t have a rooting interest in either team, though, and want a little more action on the game than your average box pool.  If that’s the case, some of these obscure prop bets are for you. Looking for a Chisel Shave Club promo code? You get 10% off you first order with Coupon Code: HOOKTSB10 at

The nice people at Chisel Shave Club reached out to me and asked me if I had ever tried traditional wet shaving before.  I hadn’t.  It’s intimidating to go from modern 3-5 blade razor cartridges to traditional 1 blade razors.  I thought for sure I’d slice my finger trying to insert the razor into the handle, or cut my throat using the traditional razor.  Neither happened.  Crisis averted.

The first thing I noticed was how nice the presentation was, and how high-quality the contents of the box were.  You’re not getting cheap shit here.  You’re getting a box full of grooming products you can be proud to own and use.  From the handle to the blades to the aftershave, Chisel Shave Club provides only the finest products.

Their best deal is a 12 month subscription for $26.99/mo.  It seems expensive, but you’re getting a box full of stuff, not just a razor and some shaving cream.  If you’re serious about your grooming habits, it’s worth splurging on yourself a bit.  I searched on the internet to see how much it’d cost to piece this set together, and already hit the $27 mark with the face wash and aftershave alone- so you are definitely saving by going with Chisel.  Start your subscription here at and use promo code HookTSB10 for 10% off.
