Father’s Day and Michigan International Speedway have become a NASCAR tradition.

Michigan International Speedway, or MIS, is a 2-mile moderate-banked D shaped speedway located in the “Irish Hills” of Brooklyn, Michigan. It is sometimes known as the sister track to Texas Motor Speedway. MIS is currently the fastest track in NASCAR due to its wide, sweeping corners and long straightaways; typical qualifying speeds are in excess of 195 mph and corner entry speeds can be anywhere from 215 to 220mph after the repaving in 2012. The first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at MIS was held of June 15, 1969 and was won by Cale Yarborough at a speed of 139.254mph.
Last year, the Junior Nation was finally able to rejoice as Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was able to capture his first win in 143 races. Dale Jr, who dominated the race and clearly showed the rest of the field he that he had the best car on the track, had a tire change that threw the driver and team for a look but the team was able to relay and capture the victory. Will the No. 88, who has another special Batman paint scheme this weekend, be able to dominate again?

Carl Edwards was able to capitalize on the fast Michigan International Speedway surface. Edwards turned a lap of 202.452 mph to capture the Coors Light Pole Award for Sunday afternoon. The lap wasn’t fast enough to break the MIS record set by Macros Ambrose last June. Thirteen drivers ran at least 200 mph on the 2-mile track. This is Edwards’ first pole since the 2012 Daytona 500 and Ford’s first of the season.
Coverage for the Quicken Loans 400 start with the Countdown to Green on TNT starting at 12:00pm EST with the green flag scheduled to drop at 1:18pm EST. The Grand Marshal for the race, who will also give the command for drivers to start their engines, is Detroit Red Wings defencemen and captain, Niklas Kronwall. While Larry Callahan and Selected of God, the iconic Detroit choir from the 2011 Chrysler 200 “Born of Fire” Super Bowl ad, will sing the national anthem.

My Prediction:
My prediction to win the Quicken Loans 400 from Michigan International Speedway is Carl Edwards. Edwards has two wins at MIS. He also has the third highest driver ratings and the second best average finish at the 2-mile track. Edwards has a great change to get his second win of the season on Sunday afternoon. It would make a great Father’s Day gift, as Edwards has two children.
