Marcell Dareus Arrested in Alabama

Alabama State Troopers have confirmed that Buffalo Bills Pro Bowl defensive tackle, Marcell Dareus, was arrested on Monday evening.

Dareus was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the Alabama Department of Public Safety.

The news was reported on Tuesday night by WVUA-TV, a news channel in Tuscaloosa. 

Dareus, who is from Birmingham, Alabama, and played for the University of Alabama, was booked into the Cleburne County Jail and released 445 minutes later after posted a $3,000 bond.

Thad Brown of WROC-TV in Rochester believes that while this incident doesn’t sound serious, it may put the player’s future with the Bills in jeopardy:

Since being drafted third overall in the 2011 NFL draft, Dareus’ career has largely been a disappointment, given the amount of hype he had coming out of Alabama. He did, however, show some promise last year, recording 7.5 sacks and 71 total tackles en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

That was offset, though, by his off-field problems. The Bills suspended him of the first half of the last game of the season vs. the New England Patriots of violating team rules.

Could this latest incident hinder Dareus’ career? It’s too early to tell but with Draft Day just around the corner, we could be seeing the end to a Pro Bowler’s career.
