f you’ve been following TSB, you’re sure to have seen a few of my reviews for different types of kinesiology therapy tape. Last week I had a chance to talk to Team USA member Dotsie Bausch, one of the most accomplished athletes in women’s cycling about her cycling career and SpiderTech pre-cut elastic sports tape. Dotsie uses the tape to alleviate some of the aches and pains a cyclist experiences while training. Check out my Q&A with Dotsie and some info about SpiderTech sports tape after the jump.

SpiderTech is a 100% drug-free and effective solution for minor aches and pains. What sets it apart from other kinesiology therapy tapes is that it’s incredibly easy-to-use given its large assortment of pre-cut designs (17 in total), and its high quality. SpiderTech sports tape isn’t just for athletes, but for anyone young and old who may suffer from aches and pains.
Dotsie Bausch is a 2012 Olympics silver medalist, and a 7-time US Champion. She uses SpiderTech primarily to alleviate lower back and leg pain, common ailments for an elite cyclist. This is what she had to say about her career and the use of SpiderTech sports tape:

Hook: Thank you for taking the time to speak with us. Please tell us a little bit about yourself and your relationship with SpiderTech.
Dotsie: I didn’t start cycling until I was 26, using it as one of my vehicles to recovery from an eating disorder. SpiderTech came in when I was dealing with tremendous lower back pain from sciatica. SpiderTech was something that got me off of the 1000mg of IB Profin that I was having to take to get through the rigorous training.

H: I assume lower back pain is a common problem for cyclists, is that true?
D: Yea, you assume correctly. The position of how we ride coupled with the fact that a lot of cyclists don’t have as strong a core as they should could lead to a lot of issues.
H: Did your doctor recommend SpiderTech tape?
D: I actually found it when I met the creator of SpiderTech tape at a cycling camp. He knew I was having major issues with my lower back due to sciatica, and I tried it. And I was like “oh my gosh!” It was almost instant. Within 10 minutes the pain started to alleviate. What I did, I went out and tried all of the brands on the market because I had never used the tape before, and SpiderTech was far superior to me. The way that it sticks, how well it sticks, the breathability of 100% cotton, it being hypoallergenic, and the way that it moves and feels just like skin. Once you have it on, after about 5 minutes you don’t even realize you have it on anymore. It’s just very workable and useable for anyone in their everyday life. SpiderTech tape is also precut, so it’s made for specific types of the body. If you’re intimidated by just a roll of tape because you don’t know how to cut it and use it, all you have to do is follow the directions and boom you’re set.
H: I’ve used my fair share of Kinesiology therapy tape to deal with shin splints, so I understand where you’re coming from.
D: Overuse injuries and chronic injuries are things that I find people really have a lot of success with SpiderTape. It really helps to keep the pain at bay.
H: So what is your relationship with SpiderTech right now? What do you do for them?
D: I’ve always been an athlete for them, but now I am doing some first-person work for them. I help them manage their stable of athletes. They have a variety of athletes, some olympic sports some not. There are MMA, supercross, football… I help manage those athletes which is really fun.
H: Are you also a cyclist full-time? Would you consider that your occupation?
D: It is, and has been for about 15 years. I do other things in the off-season for a variety of sponsors, all products that I use and believe in. I like to work with them as much as possible. In-season, I’m pretty much 100% focused on training, which is about 8 months long.
H: Are there any races you’re looking forward to in the coming months?
D: We are just getting ready to go through the beginning of our World Cup season. Track cycling is a winter sport, we begin in October until the championships in March. The World Cup is a big deal because this year we begin accumulating Olympic qualifying points. You get 2 years to qualify a spot for the country in the Olympic Games.
H: Do you wear SpiderTech tape only when you’re racing, when you’re training, or all the time?
D: When you’re racing, you taper into an event. You taper down on the intensity and load of your training. Before and during a race I’m actually in the least amount of pain that I would be in. Sometimes I’ll use it in racing, but I really primarily use it when I’m in hardcore training mode. During those big blocks where I’m demanding so much from my body, those times, I’ll have it on every day.
Dotsie went on to educate me about cycling, a sport I admittedly don’t know much about, and her current involvement. She said the upcoming Olympic Games will be her last, but she’ll continue to compete as long as the drive is there. She was a real pleasure to speak to, and we at Total Sports Blog will be sure to root for her in her upcoming races.
Spider Tech pre-cut sports tape is now available in 1,000 select Walmart stores nationwide. It’s easy to use, and comes in convenient tins for storage. I’ll be posting my personal review of SpiderTech so be sure to check back with us at Total Sports Blog for my own thoughts on this high-end Kinesiology thereapy tape.
