MA legend Ken Shamrock squares off with my favorite fighter of all-time, Kimbo Slice, on June 19 in St Louis at Bellator 138, and yours truly will be there 5 rows from the cage to witness the action. While there are rumors that drug testing may derail this must-see bout, I’ll be making the trip to support Michael Chandler, a Missouri native who faces Derek Campos at this event. Chandler sent me a promo code on Twitter to get some killer seats at this event, and although I didn’t use it (I wanted to get closer to the cage), it was a first-class move and I instantly became a fan.

If you’re questioning why Kimbo Slice is my favorite fighter of all-time after he pretty much got laughed out of the UFC, hear me out.I’m not saying Kimbo is the best of all-time. He’s far from it. But from a pure entertainment view, very few fighters have Ferg’s (his real name is Kevin Ferguson, you can hear his buddies calling him “Ferg” in his videos) credentials. I first caught wind of Kimbo Slice in 2008 while his epic backyard brawl videos were making the rounds on YouTube. The “rules” of these bouts favored Kimbo’s fighting style (ie, no kicking. Dude’s legs are brittle toothpicks), and he pretty much beat the shit out of everyone he faced except for 1 man (see Kimbo vs Cop. I’m not sure who this dude is but he won the fight imo). The majority of the fighters he faced weren’t up to snuff, but he did pretty much knock this one jacked dude’s eyeball out of its socket (NSFW):

The sheer fact that this man went from fighting people in random Florida backyards for beer money to actually making it to the UFC is nothing short of amazing. He has some of the heaviest hands on the planet, and is an absolute beast if he can keep a fight standing up. At 41, he’s not the elite athlete he once was (played football at the U, had a tryout with the Dolphins), but I wouldn’t want to come across the middle with Kimbo Slice lurking.

I know what I’m getting myself into with Bellator 138. It’s a spectacle. If you think Kimbo Slice is old, Ken Shamrock is ten years his senior at 51! I’m hoping some of the undercard bouts are entertaining, but at least I’ll get to say I saw Kimbo fight live once in my life. I just hope both of them pass their drug tests. I don’t care if both Kimbo and Ken have to get a blood transfusion and wear a whizzinator every day from now until the fight. This fight needs to happen.
