Spring Is In The Air For UK Sporting Events

With a veritable smorgasbord of sporting offerings heading our way in 2015 you may be overwhelmed by the impressive selection of events for us all to enjoy. However, we’re focusing here on just a small slice of sporting action that’ll keep you entertained during those unpredictable spring months.

Henley is the familiar setting on 11 April 2015 for the 161^st annual Boat Race against the mighty crews of Oxford and Cambridge Universities. It is one of the oldest sporting events in the world and has been running every year since it was first raced all the way back in 1829. The two athletic squads made up of 8 rowers with a cox to guide them must literally shed sweat and tears as they agonize over the back-breaking course that runs for just over 4 miles in length.

The extremely well-established fixture has been raced 160 times to date between the two boat clubs with Cambridge just edging out the competition with a lead of 81 races to Oxford’s 78 with just a single dead heat also recorded during the 1870’s. However, Cambridge will be looking to turn things up a gear in 2015 having missed out on a race victory for the past couple of years.

Also cueing up in April is the return of the World Snooker Championship where current title holder Mark Selby will be looking to retain his crown. The action will once again take place at the legendary Crucible Theatre in Sheffield where the tournament has been held for the past 37 years.

England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan, who finished as the 2014 runner-up, will be looking to achieve his 6^th championship title in 2015 to go into the history books alongside legendary players Steve Davis and Ray Reardon. Scotland’s Stephen Hendry still holds the record with an astonishing 7 titles under his waistcoat.

Cheltenham once more will be the setting for the world famous Cheltenham Festival. The festival is a 4-day long event taking place in March 2015 and plays host to copious amounts of entertainment and top flight horse racing events. The mid-week fest kicks off on Tuesday 10^th March 2015 and concludes with what is perhaps the highlight of the entire week’s jam-packed racing schedule, the Cheltenham Gold Cup, which gets under starters orders on the Friday.

Finishing off the spring season is arguably the biggest event in the annual UK sporting calendar. The FA Cup final will kick off on 30 May and promises some hard fought football action and hopefully some amazing goal scoring.

Earlier this year we saw the thrilling contest take place between Premier League teams Arsenal and Hull City who fiercely battled their way through into extra time in order to get their hands on that prestigious cup. And it was Arsenal who managed to get their noses out in front in the 109^th minute to help secure their 11^th FA Cup win and whom now join Manchester United as the two most successful clubs in FA Cup history.
