The long wait is over. The NFL season kicks off on Thursday night and it feels like Christmas morning all over again. There is a lot of buzz about the Millionaire Maker event for Week 1, but there are a ton of cash games to take advantage of this week as well. There are so many new users on DraftKings that fielding a winning lineup in cash games should be a fairly easy feat if you know what you are doing.

The strategy in cash games is all about maximizing your lineup’s floor. As long as we can score above the mean consistently, we are going to cash in double-ups and head-to-head contests more often than not. In order to maximize our floor, we want to pay up for consistency at the quarterback and running back position and find the best values on the board. Here are my favorite picks for Week 1. Many Clouds won the 2015 Crabbie’s Grand National at Aintree on Saturday to give jockey Leighton Aspell his second consecutive victory in the world-famous race. The 8-year-old held off a late challenge from Saint Are to win by a length and three-quarters, ahead of Monbeg Dude, Alvarado and the favourite Shutthefrontdoor. 19 of the 39 runners finished the 30-fence track, as owner Trevor Hemmings earned his third National success after previously winning with Hedgehunter and Ballabriggs. We take a look at some of the highs and lows from Saturday’s main event, and quickly glance at next year’s race. Read the rest of this entry »

Best Sports With Binary Outcomes

There are plenty of sports out there with binary outcomes, where one of two things has to happen. They’re generally the best choices for those who enjoy a punt on their chosen sport and have a deep knowledge of it. So, here’s why…

It’s all about value. Simply put, the value principle works for the house in a casino due to the margin. This is the green zero in roulette or the banker’s “pay” at blackjack etc. That is so, over a long enough period of time, the house will win out. Similarly, if you were ever given odds of an absolute smidgen better than even money on the fair toss of a coin, you would be a fool not to take the bet every time you were offered it. Even if you lost the first six tosses, you would always come out on top if you played it long enough.

If you’ve watched ESPN, or any sporting event at all on TV over the past few months, there’s a 99.9% chance you’ve seen commercials for FanDuel, “the leader in one-week fantasy football leagues”.  Lately they’ve been offering a “get up to $200 free on your first deposit” welcome bonus.  Sounds awesome, right?  Well, it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be.  This is the truth about FanDuel and their “welcome bonus”. The NFL is in full swing and aren’t we all the better for it. We have already witnessed a repeat of last year’s Super Bowl, this time the Denver Broncos were beaten 26-20 by the Seattle Seahawks in overtime, instead of being humiliated again like they were in the 2014 Super Bowl final. Many see this game as a prequel to the 2015 Super Bowl.

However, analysts and pundits are giving too much weight to these two teams. We all know the NFL is far from conclusive, shocks are one-a-penny, and this year should be no different. At the beginning of last season the Seattle Seahawks were 17/2 to win the Super Bowl, proving that you do not have to be a favorite to get your hands on the Vince Lombardi trophy.
