Decades Of Hate!

Decades Of Hate!

One thing that absolutely irritates me about New York sports is the amount of fake local rivalries we have here.  And I was reminded of my hatred of false rivalries last night when the Jets took on the Giants in a preseason game.  This happens every year and it’s called the Snoopy Bowl. Because Metlife Stadium is named after Metlife who has Snoopy as their mascot, lol! The Giants won and guess what? It meant absolutely nothing.   This of course didn’t stop fans from talking an unwarranted amount of trash talk towards one another.  Both teams have enough teams within their own division that they can hate there is absolutely no reason to hate each other.

In theory, fans voting for the cover athlete of their favorite video game makes sense. In theory, the fans will vote a player onto the cover that they want to see.

In reality, it doesn’t work. Especially in the National Hockey League.

kings cup
The Los Angles Kings won the Stanley Cup tonight after Alec Martinez put home a rebound at 14:43 of the second overtime period. The two overtime periods were two of the most entertaining I have ever seen. The New York Rangers and Kings both hit the post in the extra frames, and Jonathan Quick and Henrik Lundqvist stood on their heads.

Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings is playing out of his mind tonight.  He’s made a bunch of huge saves against the New York Rangers and this one was incredible.  Derrick Brassard will be looking up to the rafters all night after being robbed like this.

Kings
The Los Angeles Kings have taken a 1-0 series lead over the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Final, after Justin Williams scored at 4:36 of overtime in Game 1. Williams was able to capitalize after New York’s Dan Girardi misplayed the puck in his own zone. Girardi threw the puck up the wall after he fell down, and Mike Richards was able to intercept the clearing attempt. Richards quickly passed it to a wide open Williams who buried the puck behind Henrik Lundqvist.

Check out the overtime goal of the Kings 3-2 victory after the jump.

Alec Martinez of the Los Angeles Kings scored at 5:47 of overtime to send LA to the Stanley Cup Finals. Martinez flicked a harmless looking shot on goal from the left point and it deflected off of Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Nick Leddy, then past netminder Corey Crawford.

This was an absolutely incredible series by these two teams and obviously overtime was the only way to settle it.  Check out the video of the game winning goal.

Handzus
Michal Handzus scored the game winning goal in double overtime to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. Thanks to Handzus, the Blackhawks live to see another day. Brandon Sadd sent a sweet cross ice pass to a driving Handzus, and after a quick move to the backhand, Handzus scored to cut the series to 3-2. The Blackhawks will now travel to Los Angeles to try to stave off elimination once again in game 6.

Kane
Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks scored in overtime of game six to defeat the Minnesota Wild four games to two in the Western Conference Semi-finals.  Halfway through the overtime period, Patrick Kane pounced on the loose puck as it took a crazy carom off the glass behind Wild goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, and roofed a backhander to give the Blackhawks the win.

Check out the awesome set of mitts on Kane.
