Tonight’s Raw was another decent edition as we continue to build towards Payback on June 1st. Some matches that seemed to be lined up for Payback include a Shield vs. Evolution rematch, a Cena vs. Wyatt rematch, and Adam Rose vs. Jack Swagger. Unfortunately left off the card up until this point is Daniel Bryan. Bryan revealed in an in-ring promo tonight that he needs neck surgery this Thursday and I’m still not sure if this is just storyline or real because the situation of the WWE World Heavyweight Title wasn’t addressed on the show. Daniel Bryan was written off with a segment where he was attacked by Kane so time will tell. The matches themselves weren’t great, but storylines were advanced tonight.

Last night’s Monday Night RAW was pretty decent overall, as the go-home show with Extreme Rules coming up this Sunday. Raw opened with what will easily be one of the top 10 moments on Raw this year with Bray Wyatt and an entire chorus of children singing “He’s got the whole world in his hands” to John Cena. We also had a tag team title match, the finals of the Intercontinental Title Tournament, a final Daniel Bryan/Kane buildup, and the final buildup between the Shield and Evolution that included the return of Ric Flair.

We are two weeks away from Extreme Rules and the card is starting to shape up. It’s nice to see WWE move away from the formula of the pay-per-view, ahem, special event, after Wrestlemania being a bunch of Wrestlemania rematches. This definitely isn’t the case apart from Cena and Wyatt. Tonight was a solid Raw that advanced storylines and had some solid matches.

It was announced and expected coming into tonight, that Raw was going to be a tribute show to the Ultimate Warrior after his passing just days after being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. There was a ten bell salute to start the show with a nice video package and throughout the night a number of “Ultimate Moments” were shown.

Last night Earl, Jon, and Matt talked about a variety of topics. The show opened up with the Ultimate Warrior’s theme music. It was only fitting that his music was played, 24 hours after his tragic death. The guys bounced around a lot of baseball for the first half of the show, but then talked about NCAA Basketball, NHL, NBA, Ultimate Warrior, and finally, The Masters. Take a listen and let us know what you think!

The 20 Athlete Royal Rumble

January 24, 2014 by

With the WWE’s Royal Rumble coming up this weekend, I always imagined which twenty present day athletes would I want to see in a Royal Rumble. There are the easy ones like Zedeno Chara, Prince Fielder, Metta World Peace, and Jon Jones. But to round out my twenty, I’d need to diversify my portfolio. I wouldn’t just pick the biggest and baddest dudes on the block, because we all know that Ric Flair wasn’t exactly either one of those.

This week the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Clayton Kershaw to a 7 year $215 million contract.  This is a fabulous move since by the time the contract is over he will only be 32 and as we all know lefthanders are immortal so he will probably still have one more big time contract at that point.  Good for Kershaw and good for the Dodgers who probably still have enough money to sign Tanaka and three Cuban players who haven’t even announced that they’re defecting yet.
