Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco is a free agent, and although the Baltimore Ravens are currently $5million over the salary cap before re-signing Flacco, you better believe Baltimore is going to pay that man heees money. There’s no question Flacco is about to become one of the highest paid QBs in the league, but does he deserve it?

Kinda. I know that answer is lame as hell, but hear me out. The dude’s coming off an impeccable post-season where he threw 11 TDs and 0 INTs while leading the Ravens to a Super Bowl Championship. The Ravens have won at least 1 playoff game every year with Joe Flacco at the helm. In a league that gave JaMarcus Russell a 6 year, $61million ($32million guaranteed) contract, a guy like Flacco deserves a duffel bag full of cash. His agent Joe Linta says that Flacco should be the highest paid QB in the league. Whoa whoa whoa… hold your horses Mr. Linta. That’s crazy talk.
Flacco has averaged 20.4 TDs and 11.2 INTs per year. The words “average” and “pedestrian” come to mind when I look at those stats. And don’t forget, the Ravens defense has consistently been one of the best in the league during Flacco’s tenure as QB, and a supporting cast of Ray Rice, Anquan Boldin, Torrey Smith etc. aint shabby. What I’m saying is, the man who sported a unibrow that Anthony Davis would be proud of for his first couple of years in the league isn’t racking up those W’s all by himself.

Flat-out, Joe Flacco doesn’t deserve Drew Brees or Peyton Manning money. Bro-dude doesn’t even come close. The fair solution would be for Baltimore to apply the franchise tag to Flacco, which would pay him approximately $14.6million per. He deserves to be rewarded for his body of work, but until he has a 35+ TD season he shouldn’t demand top dollar at his position.
