DRAFT Fantasy Football: Develop a Fun (And Perhaps Profitable) New Hobby!

The good people at Naked Nutrition reached out to me and asked me to give their pre-workout supplement, Naked Energy, a try.  While I work out regularly, I generally don’t use supplements of any kind.  I’ll crush a protein bar after one or two workouts a week, but that’s about it.  Regardless, I gave Naked Energy a go.

QUICK REVIEWFULL REVIEW:  The Naked Difference:

QUICK REVIEW

Effectiveness: A-

Taste: C-

Side Effects: B-

Price: A-

Overall: B

With only 10 premium, non GMO ingredients, Naked Nutrition’s Naked Energy is for the health conscious go-getter who wants that extra “umph” before their workout.  While I wasn’t a fan of the taste, I did feel a sense of alertness and energy that I didn’t have a half hour prior to ingesting the supplement.  I made the mistake one morning of taking Naked Energy on an empty stomach, and got a wicked headache, but otherwise Naked Energy did the trick.

For $39.99 you get 50 servings, which should last you about 2 months.  If you’re interested, you can scoop a tub of Naked Energy here, or order through Amazon.com.

FULL REVIEW:

From the manufacturer:

Naked Energy is a pure, unflavored pre-workout that has been formulated with only premium, non-gmo ingredients. Naked Nutrition’s #1 objective is to help you perform at your highest levels with the cleanest products available. Our pre-workout will give you the energy you need to take your workouts to the next level.**

Don’t let labels and big agribusiness fool you; additives are for their bottom line, not your health.

The Naked Difference:

  • Only 10, High-Quality Ingredients
  • Designed to Enhance Athletic Performance**
  • Guaranteed to Impact Your Workout**
  • No Added Sweeteners, Colors, or Flavors
  • Non-GMO and Vegan
**These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

It makes sense that I didn’t like the flavor of Naked Energy because there are no added sweeteners or flavors like most other supplements.  That means mixing this stuff with water is probably going to create a concoction that you have to force yourself to choke down, which I did repeatedly before workouts for 2 weeks straight.  I didn’t want to mix it with a flavored sports drink so I could get a pure sense of how the supplement itself was affecting me, and not the sports drink itself.

The instructions are to add one or 2 scoops of the Naked Energy to 8oz of water, shake it up and drink it 15-30 minutes before your workout.  I generally would drink half a bottled water, dump in a scoop or two, shake it up, and chug it on my walk over to the gym.  When I say I disliked the taste I am being generous.  It’s not terrible, but it’s not good, either.  If you’re interested in this product make sure you have some Gatorade or Powerade to mix it with.  Don’t do what I did.  I suffered for the sake of this review, you don’t have to.

EFFECTIVENESS

You definitely get a boost to your energy level and alertness after taking this product.  I’d liken it to taking a shot of espresso with more hydration.  I didn’t feel any jitters at all while taking this product, which is great, because just about every other pre-workout supplement on the market is going to make your heart beat fast and/or your hands tremble if you go overboard and take too much.  Naked Energy doesn’t do you dirty like that.  Naked Energy makes your body feel good.  I didn’t feel like I could move mountains, but I like the extra pep in my step it gave me.

TASTE

As previously mentioned, Naked Energy has no additional sweeteners or added flavors.  That means you’re tasting the 10 ingredients, straight up, which isn’t really pleasant.  I appreciate them not throwing a bunch of chemicals in there for the sake of taste, but mixing Naked Energy with water doesn’t make it easy to drink by any means.  I didn’t like the taste, and that’s OK.  It wasn’t a deal-breaker for me, and shouldn’t be a deal-breaker for you, either.

SIDE EFFECTS

So 9 times out of 10 that I took Naked Energy, I felt fine.  The one day I hit the gym early on an empty stomach, I got a terrible headache after drinking my Naked Energy concoction.  It was like someone was squeezing my head.  I felt like Devante Adams after getting rocked by Danny Trevathan last night on Thursday Night Football.

OK, that’s an exaggeration.  Extreme hyperbole, even, but I did not feel normal.  I grabbed a snack from the machine at the gym and felt better.  But seriously, don’t take this supplement, or any supplement for that matter, on an empty stomach.

Otherwise, no negative side effects.  No jitters.  No trembles.  All good on that front with Naked Energy.

PRICE

The price of Naked Energy puts it right around their competitors.  If you’re vegan, and looking for a vegan pre-workout supplement, Naked Nutrition is probably the best you’re going to do.

Overall, I had a good experience with Naked Nutrition and would recommend it to anyone searching for a pre-workout energy boost without the added chemicals and frills.  Head over to nkdnutrition.com and check out Naked Energy and their multiple other products they have available.
