Being a man, there are only a few things that matter in life. Sports, chicks, beer and a good razor. You can deal with your mediocre sports team, an average looking girl, or a so-so beer (as long as it’s cold). But you can’t live with an OK razor.

Our friends at 800razors.com were nice enough to send us some razors to try out and wanted to know how their low-cost razors stacked up to the ones we used. After growing out my “playoff beard”, it was time to shave it off after my beloved New York Islanders were eliminated in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Due to how thick my beard was, I had to use a buzzer to trim it down a little bit. No razor on earth could cut through it without ripping a hole in my face. I used my Gillette Fusion Pro Glide Styler Beard Trimmer with the #2 blade attachment to trim my beard down.

For a true product review, I shaved one side of my face with my Fusion and the other side with the H50.

Full Review:
The H50 Razor is the razor they compare to Gillette’s Fusion. I have been using the Fusion line of razors for as long as I can remember. I think they are the best razors on the market hands down. My only complaint about the Fusion razors is the obvious high cost. I was very interested in seeing how a low cost razor could stack up.
The H50 claims everything that the Fusion does but at a much lower cost and with high quality. Along with the low cost/high promise, 800Razors.com states that” If you feel burned (for any reason) we will give you a full refund.”
Sounds like a challenge that my face was ready to accept.

When holding a razor, I want some weight and sturdiness in the handle. When I haven’t shaved in a few days, I’m going to need to put some pressure on that handle to cut through my coarse beard. The H50’s handle is very solid. It’s almost too heavy, but it gives me the confidence to put some pressure on it.
The handle also sat very comfortably in my hand. The rubberized portions and contoured handle were perfectly placed.
The razor cartridge itself was slightly larger than the Fusion and had a bit of a “plasticy” feel to it. It wasn’t the blades that felt this way, but the ridges that collected the shaving gel. It was something I have never noticed before when shaving.
The blades felt real strong on my face. They weren’t flimsy and were extremely sharp
Comfort: B
While I stated before that the handle had a great feel and weight to it, the swivel head for the razor cartridge was all over the place. While there was no doubt the hair on my face was being cut, it felt as if only the bottom blades on the razor were touching my skin. I was constantly adjusting my arm angle to get all five blades on my face. The cartridge had way too much movement for my liking.
Shave: B
This was the most important part of my review. The cut of the blades were good. It was everything I expected from a brand new razor. No nicks on my skin and no burn. But to be honest, the side of my face that I shaved with the Fusion was noticeably smoother. To the naked eye you couldn’t tell that, but when my wife ran her hand across my face, she instantly felt some stubble on the H50 side. It had to be from what I described before about how all five blades didn’t feel like they were on my face.
Overall Value: A+
As far as value goes, you can’t beat these razors. One pack of five razors costs $9.99, as opposed to a pack of five Fusion razors for $17.99-$19.99 depending on what store you go to. The more razors you buy, the better the deal. Make sure you check out their website for all of their deals. I know if I was living on a budget and had a 5 o’clock shadow by 2pm, I’d be stocking up here.
Final Thoughts
800Razors.com’s H50 razor holds up really well against the Fusion. Honestly, if I was in a store and needed razors, I would instantly grab the H50 over any of the big name brands. But since they are not sold in stores, I’d go to 800razors.com to buy some. I complained about the blades not all touching my face before. I’m sure I could probably figure out what arm angle I really needed to use to get the perfect shave with the H50 after a while. The price of a pack of razors these days is absolutely insane. If I could save money there is no doubt I would use these. If you are a guy who shaves a lot and goes through razors like underwear, go to 800razors.com and pick up a few razors. It will be worth it.
