Welcome to the second and final leg of the finals for MTV’s The Challenge: Rivals 2

We left off last week with Frank and Johnny paddling towards the yacht with Marlon and Jordan close behind. Right at the end of the last episode, we saw one of the kayaks tip over and the two competitors fell into the water. I watched it a few times and couldn’t exactly figure out who it was. I was pretty torn between which team I was hoping it was. If you read this recap every week, you know that I have the rookies in the Fantasy Scoring portion. But I also thought that Johnny and Frank would put up a better fight in the finals.
Sorry Marlon and Jordan, it would have been awesome to see you go for the win on day two, but it just wasn’t meant to be. The next morning, the final group of CT and Wes vs Frank and Johnny, and Paula and Emily vs Cara Maria and Cooke were brought to “Nightmare Island”. The rules were simple for what you had to do to win the $125,000 prize. Complete all five tasks, take the idols to the pedestal at the starting line, and get the yacht. After completing each task, the team had to run all the way around the island and put the idol on the stand and start all over again.
To start it all off, the girls went first and made the swim to Nightmare Island. A few moments later, the guys followed. The guys made it to the island first and came upon the first challenge. Now when you get to each task, there had to be door broken open. This could have played a big part in determining a winner. Whoever got to the door first, had to take their time and use up energy, to get through the door.

The first puzzle was a puzzle that we have all done while sitting at a restaurant waiting for our food. Instead of using little pegs, there were giant spears with voodoo paraphernalia on them. You know this game…
CT lets us know that he’s done this puzzle hundreds of times when he’s been hungover at breakfast in his favorite southern restaurant. Then BAM! CT and Wes flew through puzzle and they were gone with their idol. Just as fast as CT and Wes were, Cooke and Cara were right on their heels as the left just afterwards. Both Johnny and Frank and Paula and Emily, were struggling mightily. Finally they both figured it out and completed the puzzle.
The second puzzle was just hysterical. There was a simple math problem that needed to be completed. There was a triangle, and you needed to solve for X. The competitors were given the length of two sides of the triangle and needed to use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve the puzzle. When they figured out the answer, they had to cut the color rope that corresponds to the answer. After trying to do the 9th grade math and failing, CT and Wes just said fuck it, and picked the blue rope to cut…and were RIGHT! They snatched that idol and took off. As the other three teams are trying to figure the answer out, Cooke was very smart and just looked over at CT and Wes’ task. She noticed which rope they cut and saw the answer. She found the corresponding color for the answer on her answer board and just started cutting. As soon as she cut through that rope, there was the idol. Frank and Johnny and Paula and Emily were slow once again and trailed behind.

The third task was one for the ages. “Food Test” was nothing but a vomit fest. Each team had to eat everything on the plate in front of them in order. 1. Chili Peppers 2. Pickled Fish Soup 3. Worms/Maggots 4. Durian 5. Dried Squid. There’s no other way to describe what the competitors were going through, other than a pure vomit fest. CT and Wes just mowed though everything, vomiting all the way. Frank and Johnny were a disaster, as were Cara Maria and Cooke. Paula and Emily on the other hand knew that this is where they could make out ground. And they did. Cara Maria and Cooke struggled so mightily that Paula and Emily opened a huge lead on them here. Frank and Johnny just bitched at each other the whole time and fell farther behind.
“Body Issues” was the fourth challenge and was physically grueling. Each team had to take 20 body bags that were clearly filled with something heavy, and transport them using a stretcher, to a designated dumping zone. This had to be repeated twenty times before they could dig in the sand for a box containing the idol. CT and Wes had a bid lead at one point but Frank and Johnny closed the gap pretty quickly. At one point, I believe CT and Wes were on their 18th body bag when Frank and Johnny were o their 16th. As far as the girls went, it was the end for Cooke and Cara Maria. They were a complete mess. Cara Maria just didn’t have the physical strength to do this. Especially after throwing up non stop for god knows how long. CT and Wes finished and took off for task number five as Johnny and Frank started to break down after body bag sixteen. Shortly after they leave, Paula and Emily leave as well.
While the rest of the competitors are still at the fourth stage, CT and Wes make it to stage five. “Tunnel Vision” is where the competitors had to dig with their hands in the sand, and find a tunnel that would lead them to a cage with the final idol in it. Once in the cage, they needed to navigate through about 200 bamboo poles, all intertwined and stacked on each other, and climb up and grab it. CT and Wes went through this in about one minute. It was amazing. Paula and Emily showed up right after CT and Wes set off their smoke grenade to signal that they were done with the challenge. As easy as a time CT and Wes has with this challenge, so did Paula and Emily. Both teams reached the pedestal and grabbed their “Golden Elephants”. Ct and Wes reached the boat first and collected a cool $125k to split, as did Emily and Paula.
All in all, I was pretty disappointed how the final played out. Every season of The Challenge, the finalists are whisked away to some extreme climate and perform the most physically grueling final challenge ever. This one was pretty boring to be honest. I sincerely hope the producers listen to fan backlash and make next season’s incredible.
After the Finals, there as the live reunion. Apparently Frank has been running his mouth non stop on social media and Knight wasn’t having any of it. So Knight took it upon himself to snuff Frank in his face live on TV. Knight took exception to the way Frank was abusing Jemmye during their stay in Thailand…
