The other day Mets GM Sandy Alderson made the claim that the team could possibly win 90 games this season. This statement was of course met with ridicule, freaking out, panic, and a couple of protests. This comment caused so much of a stir that local radio mongo wrangler Mike Francesa literally spent an entire day talking about it. Things must be really slow on the New York sports scene.

Francesa’s rant on the subject was so unbelievably stupid that I actually came close to calling into his show and then realized that I haven’t been locked away in a mental asylum yet. He made comments like “He’s trying to sell tickets!” No one heard Sandy Alderson say that the Mets were going to win 90 games and ran and bought tickets, NO ONE. And then he was saying that Alderson made that statement because it was a bad day for the Mets because Niese was injured….Mike failed to realize that earlier that day Niese’s MRI results should that there was no real issue and he was cleared to pitch. Honestly, I don’t care what Alderson says. He could say that the team is going to go 162-0 and I’d be like “whatever”. It’s fine, the only I ask is that there is some accountability. If the team fails to even win 80 games this year then Terry Collins should be fired. I mean, this is probably the best team he’s had to work with since he’s been manager so show me something bro.

Missing Justin Turner
As I said, I don’t care what Alderson says and if you paid attention to him he’s give an optimistic prediction every year that he’s been here. He has mostly been wrong except for when he’s said that “They were better than people thought.” which was true because some people have been stupidly pegging them as a 90 + loss team each of the last few years. I don’t what they’re going to be this year but I will say that I think it’s far more likely that they win 90 games than lose 90 games this year. Newsflash: They’re not doing either. So just STFU and let Alderson say whatever he wants, and stop flipping out every time he tweets. Some people want Alderson to live tweet every free agent signing or trade that he’s working on otherwise he should say away from the computer because his team still needs a shortstop!!!! (LOL)

Congrats to David Wright for winning the extremely annoying Face Of MLB contest. I’m sure that will lead to at least 5 or 10 more wins for the Mets season…or not. Apologies to Oakland’s Eric Sogard who probably was really confused as to why he almost won some contest that he’s never heard of. Not even sure if Sogard is guaranteed for a roster spot this season but he will forever be immortalized as the guy who almost took down David Wright.
