Robinson Cano made his return to Yankee Stadium the other night after leaving for the Seattle Mariners in the offseason. His return was met with boos and some fans yelling “You sold out!” There are about 15 different things wrong with that statement. While Cano’s contract is ludicrous and outrageous, what kind of human being in their right mind would turn down $240 million dollars to return to a team that barely made you an offer and then dissed you by throwing way too much money at a guy who used to play for their biggest rival!?

Kudos to Yankee fans though for thinking before yelling shit out. That’s why they are the classiest organization in baseball…not. I think we all know that Cano wanted to stay a Yankee for life and probably never even heard of the Seattle Mariners before they offered him a contract. I mean does he look like he’s excited to be a Mariner? No, he has a look on his face that says “Ok, I guess I play for this team now.” 10 years and $240 million dollars? Yeah I’d sell out too and so would your mother.

In case I wasn’t clear the first time.
This is the problem with the New York sports fan, they will boo anyone and anything because they think New York has a reputation of being a tough town to play in and that you’ve got to earn their respect or something. And what’s the toughest thing anyone should ever have to deal with? Getting booed of course. When you land at JFK or LaGuardia airport there should be a welcome committee of New Yorkers who boo you. If you get back on the plane and leave then you’re obviously too soft for this city.

How did I end up in Toronto?
You can draw some comparisons between Cano and Jose Reyes, who left the Mets 2 years ago for not as ridiculous amount of money. When Reyes returned to Citi Field he was booed endlessly. His booing was at least a little deserved though, he took the biggest contract he could get and rather than be honest about it he spun some sob story about how the Mets didn’t want him and he felt unloved and blah blah blah. At least Cano kept his mouth shut and didn’t try to make the Yankees look like assholes. The real person that fans should be booing is Brian Cashman who let the best position player developed by the Yankees in the last 15 years walk so he could instead blow money on an aging Carlos Beltran, a blind Brian McCann, an oft-injured Jacoby Ellsbury, and unknown in Tanaka. Granted, Tanaka has looked pretty awesome….so far. But yeah boo Cano, how dare take the best offer that was made to him?
Worst free agent signing evah!!!!
Speaking of booing, Mets fans have already started booing Curtis Granderson. Yes, he’s off to a slow start but can we give this guy our support especially since the team is doing kind of well? It’s that idiotic sense of entitlement by some fans that causes some players to stay away from New York. No athlete has ever been helped in anyway by being booed. And keep your pity applauses and claps to yourself too, those might be even less helpful than booing.
