The Philadelphia Phillies took on the Washington Nationals last night. The series is expected to heat up as both teams look to gain ground on the Atlanta Braves. What happened in the 5th inning of last night’s ball game will surely light a fire beneath both teams.

As Cliff Lee of the Phillies was in the middle of his delivery, Nationals center fielder Denard Span decided to call time out. Lee threw an inside fast ball and Span jumped out of the way. Span then stared down Lee and barked at him for throwing the pitch inside. After Span grounded out to second baseman Chase Utley, Span and Lee exchanged a few words and the benches cleared.
In my opinion, Span is 100% wrong. He tried to call time out when Cliff Lee was in the middle of his delivery. Then because he was frustrated that he didn’t give himself enough time to call time out, he decides to get confrontational. That is bush league. First, you can’t expect to get a time out when the ball is coming out of the pitchers hand. Second the pitch was a little inside. Lee did not go head hunting. There was no need to jump out of the way of that pitch. Span started all of that on his own. I’m not sure if he was trying to get his team fired up (they were down 3-1 at the time) or what, but his little act last night was moronic.

I hope I never see anything like that in baseball, again.
