The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 2 “Infected” Recap: RIP D-Block

TotalSportsBlog 10 years ago 6 Min Read

After the insanity of last week’s episode with the supermarket scene, you thought that this episode would be nice, calm and chill, right? GUESS AGAIN. The episode got its hands dirty right away like farmer Rick as it foreshadowed at the end of last week’s episode with white Steve Urkel going zombie after catching a sickness.

The episode starts off with Cutty thinking he’s Marvin Gaye and trying to serenade his main chick with a siren’s call at bedtime. She’s not buying it so she goes to the bathroom area where white Steve Urkel had turned so she could apply some face wash or a mud mask or whatever it is that chicks during the zombie apocalypse apply to their face in order to keep their complexion looking pristine. She goes back to cell block D but little does she know that the white Steve Urkel follows her back and starts feasting on people in there.  The next morning, Rick and Carl start farming when they realize that shit’s hit the fan. There is a full on outbreak in cell block D until Rick, Glenn, and Darryl put it down. Michonne goes clumsy during the outbreak and decides this is the perfect time to sprain her ankle which leads to a part later on in the episode where she starts bawling like a 13-year-old girl at a One Direction concert because she has to hold on to Judith after Judith threw up all over Beth’s clothes. They have a council meeting and decide that anyone that’s been living in Cell Block D or has been exposed to Cell Block D would have to be quarantined off from the rest of the group because of a suspected pneumococcal infection (thank you, pharmacy school!). Sounds very Animal Farm-ish if you ask me. After the whole outbreak, another problem arises for our group of survivors: someone has been baiting the zombies into concentrating at certain spots at the fences. This causes a scene later on in the episode where herd of zombies almost collapse a fence. In order to prevent that from happening, we almost see the Rick Grimes cry face when Darryl and Rick come up with a plan to bait the walkers away from the fences by sacrificing Rick’s pigs. Then Rick burns down his garden, gives Carl his piece back, and also deciding that he’s going to carry his gun around too. The episode ends with Cutty attempting to bring flowers to his main chick but finding out that their bodies were fricasseed.

Honestly, there are a few things about this episode that bothered me. When white Steve Urkel died in last week’s episode, I could have cared less. Oh no! Carl’s only friend that is around his age range has died! I don’t give a shit. Carl doesn’t deserve any friends. However, this speaks to a larger problem on the show. There are people who are introduced to the show that you KNOW will die. When they do, the characters keep it moving as much as I do as if they also realize that the characters that have died haven’t been developed enough to give a shit about. Did you even know there was a brown guy introduced as a character last week? I had no idea. Look at Hollywood trying to keep the brown man down. And of course they needed him in this episode for medical advice. How stereotypical. Brown people can only be either medical professionals, tech guys, outsourced workers, taxi cab drivers, bodega owners, terrorists, or live in the Temple of Doom when it comes to TVs or movies. Also, they introduced Deangelo Barksdale (I still don’t know his name on the TV show) last week and he played a somewhat prominent role but he only showed up for a scene in this episode. Now I know why he wanted to go to the supermarket so badly in the season premiere. Also, this whole mystery on who the sketchy member of the group is that’s riling up the zombies outside of the fence feels kinda off to me. Like after the first episode, they realized that now that there is no The Governor, they need an antagonist to have the viewers rally against. Who do you guys think it is? My money is on The Governor. I mean, I feel like Michonne scoured the countryside for The Governor and couldn’t find him so I’m assuming he found a way into the prison somehow. If you want me to bet on a dark horse, I’d put a little bit of money on Maggie. I’ve seen her act a bit bat shit before so I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened again. Rick would be too obvious in my opinion as they need to kind of redeem him somehow. I also feel like the person that did that is also the person that BBQ’ed Cutty’s girlfriend, no?
