MTV’s The Challenge: Free Agents Episode 1 “Live Free Or Die” Review, Reaction, And Fantasy Scoring

TotalSportsBlog 9 years ago 10 Min Read

MTV’s The Challenge: Free Agents started off just the way the producers wanted.  “Live Free Or Die” is the type of episode that every Challenge fan loves.  Crazy format, crazy competitors, crazy elimination round.

Fourteen guys and girls show up in Uruguay not knowing how they will be teamed up with the other players.  When host TJ Lavin lets them know that this will be an individual game, jaws drop.  But the catch is that for each challenge, they will either be on a team, paired up with someone, or do an individual challenge.  They will literally not know how they will be competing until each challenge.

Season number twenty five spared no expense when finding them a house.  This place is CRAZY.  Monster sized pool with a huge hot tub, complete open floorplan, full gym, and they even have a basketball court.

The quote of the season has already been said 5 minutes into the show.  “I want to be the whore of the challenge, I want dick and balls everyday, all day”. Oh really Jasmine?  Sounds good for Rozzie, who picked her in the fantasy draft.  Then we find out that Dustin and his ex have decided that he’s not going to be hooking up with any girls on the show.  What a pussywhipped fool.  Jeez bro, just stay home then.

CT and Theresa decide that they are going to play a game of strip basketball.  Sounds good to me.  Theresa has got a serious body, and CT is always good for something inappropriate when it comes to nudity.  With the score tied up at 10, yes you are reading that right.  CT drains a 25 ft 3 pointer in her mug for the win.  Now let’s not pump up CT’s win.  Theresa showed some serious skills that raised some eyebrows among the housemates.  Girl can ball.

The first challenge is finally here.  The crew heads to the World Trade Center, which is a 42 story high building and the tallest in Uruguay.  At the building, they will play “Out on a ledge”.  One random guy and girl are picked to be team captains.  Nia and Chet get the call.  They alternate picks picking guy/girl and girl/guy.

Team Nia (Black)- Jordan, Laurel, CT, Aneesa, Cohutta, Nany, Bananas, Devyn, Johnny, Jessica, Swift, Jasmine, Preston

Team Chet (Red)- Camilla, Frank, Cara, Zack, Joanna, Dustin, Theresa, Isaac, Jemmye, Leroy, Emily, Brandon, LaToya

The first leg of the challenge is running up the stairs all chained together.  Three guys and three girls from the same team,  run 42 stories to the top, at the same time as the other team.  It was a full on battle royal. Kicking, punching, headlocks, and flying leaps all the way to the top.  When at the top, the lead player hands a key off the their teammates ready to unlock a box with a puzzle in it.  The black team was being held up by Bananas right at the top of the stairs, so Swift does his best Jimmy Superfly Snukka impression, and leaps on top of the logjam to get the key.

All of a sudden, the camera cuts to LaToya, and the girl is lying on the ground with her eyes rolling in the back of her head.  When she makes it back to the house, we find out that she bumped her head and was severely dehydrated.

At the puzzle table, the red team is in complete chaos. They take FOREVER to complete their puzzle as the black team breezes right past them and up to the final part of the challenge.

Both teams arrive up top and now the remaining 4 team members must walk out across this apparatus and across a rolling beam, grab a flag, and ring a bell on the other side. All while 450 feet suspended in the air. Naturally, the person who is the most scared of heights, Jessica, pulls it together and is the first person to make it across. Camila also makes it across for the Red team, to tie it up at one. Cohutta immediately follows up by racing right across with no problem. Black team 2, Red team 1. Jemmye now needs to get across to tie it up for the Red squad, but falls.

The Black team wins the challenge and will vote a guy and a girl from the Red team into the elimination challenge. Back at the house, the overwhelming girls pick was LaToya and the guys pick was Chet. After the vote, TJ reminds everyone on the Red team that their chance of going into the elimination challenge doesn’t end here. They then all pack up and head to the challenge. At the challenge, there is a board with a bunch of tiles. All of the tiles are blank, except for one which has a skull and cross bones. That tile means you are in the challenge. The two players to select the elimination tile were Frank and Jemmye. Two very strong competitors. This is exactly why this season is going to be awesome.

The game is called “Balls In”. One player on offense and one on defense. Object is to get the ball into the trashcan in the middle of the arena. If the offensive player loses the ball or is forced/steps out of the arena, it’s no point. They alternate offense and defense for 5 rounds. Best of five wins.

First up was the guys. Frank vs Chet. This looked like a mismatch before the horn sounded, but Chet played great defense against Frank and stopped him on the first try. On Franks offensive possession, he smashed Chet right in the mouth, opening a monster gash on Chet’s chin. After the doctors took a look at him, he decided his face was too pretty and quit, instead of throwing a bandage on it and keep competing. So you heard that right. Talk about showing no pride or manhood. Chet, you are a PUSSY. That’s right. PUSSY. Get the hell out of here and I hope TJ never allows you back on the show again. 100% quitter.

Definitely the right choice. God bless the USA and my specialized surgeon. Uruguay (left) USA (right) #FreeAgents pic.twitter.com/itXI8JWBNd

The girls matchup of LaToya vs Jemmye was one for the ages. Vegas had Jemmye as -700 before the match. But after LaToya crossed her up and put on a few spin moves, everyone’s jaws had dropped. LaToya was leading 3-2 in the bottom of the 5th and Jemmye needed to score to stay alive. And just like when she was her team’s last chance in the challenge, she failed again. See ya Jemmye. You played down to your competition and deserved to go home. you were bigger and faster than LaToya and you let her punk you. TJ was so impressed with LaToya’s performance, he even gave her a patented, “You killed it”. What a monster day for LaToya, who was picked dead last in the draft, in the fantasy scoring department.
