apologize for the tardiness this week but how about last night’s episode? I mean, there was a lot that went down but let’s frank. There were only two things that we cared about that happened in the episode:

- Khaleesi and dragons!
- Tyrion’s farce of a trial at King’s Landing.
Yeah, there were two other storylines but they felt like they were a part of the backdrop to the bigger events in this episode. Stannis getting the backing of the Iron Bank is a nice wrinkle that Tywin and his council will have to worry about. And I’m sure no one cares about the Ramsay Bolton/Reek (Theon Greyjoy) arc. The producers really need to chill with that story line. I don’t think I’ve talked to a single person that cares about it. It’s probably been the the worst park of Game of Thrones since last season.

Anyone like barbecued goat?
Last night, we got our first glimpse at the dragons in a couple episodes. We watched one of them scare the living crap out of a herder’s son and then cook up a goat with fire breath and let me just say that it was freaking AWESOME. Hold on. Let me catch my breath. Whew. Okay. Anyways, Khaleesi hooks up that herder with 3 times the goats are worth because of her Dragons’ actions but then comes to grips that being judge, jury, and executioner isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be when she’s confronted by the son of one of the men she crucified whom he claims to be an innocent. Danny finds some heart and allows him to take down his father and give him a proper burial. Personally, I think she’s going soft.

Meanwhile, in King’s Landing, everything is leading up to Tyrion’s trial. There’s a council meeting where Varys tries to get Tywin to be proactive about the Khaleesi sitch but Tywin is like “Naw bro. Not impressed”. Prince Oberyn meets up with Varys later on and tries to get in his head but the only implication that Varys gives is that he has his eyes on the Iron Throne. Duh. Who doesn’t? I’m actually kind of curious what kind of long game Varys is trying to play here though. I’m sure we’ll find out more as things start to unfold. But on to Tyrion’s big day in court! They get everyone to testify against this poor guy. Even Varys turns against him. During the recess, Jamie works out a deal for Tyrion and asks him to play along. However, when the recess is over, the crown calls a surprise witness: Shae! Shae delivers a scathing lie of a testimony that hurts Tyrion to the core which leads to Tyrion going absolutely ape shit when his father asks him if he’s ready to confess:
Ooooooh, sick burn, bro.
Ooooh, a zinger directed at the Lannisters and Shae.
Now the hate is directed at everyone! HATE HATE HATE
Whoa
That last part really was a surprise that I did not expect. Who will Tyrion get to be his champion? Ser Bronn? Jamie Lannister? That would really rankle Tywin and Cersei. What are your thoughts and please, if you’re read the books, no spoilers please.
(Sorry about the shorter version of the recap this week and I’ll have a part two later this week with memes, tumblrs, tweets, and observations.)
