Carlos Burle Garrett McNamarra

Surfers Carlos Burle, right, from Brazil, and Garret McNamara, from the US, pose for a photo after Burle surfed a big wave at the Praia do Norte, north beach, at the fishing village of Nazare in Portugal’s Atlantic coast Monday, Oct. 28 2013.

Today I came across a pretty incredible surfing video. Surfing isn’t exactly a big topic on TSB, but when it’s a video of a guy riding a 100 ft high wave, it’s a must see. Surfer Carlos Burle was in Nazaré, Portugal, the same spot where fellow surfer Garrett McNamara, supposedly set the world record last year for the highest wave ridden.

The waves are so big here that you need to be towed out into the water by a jet ski. Check out the video after the jump.

The Walking Dead is really playing up this flu thing. More and more people are getting infected (even a few main characters) and the stakes are getting higher. Once people from the main cast start getting sick, you know the TV Gods have to come up with a way of keeping them alive, right? What about a veterinary clinic that’s 50 miles away that may have some antibiotics that the prison crew could possibly use? Excellent! What? There is a horde of zombies at the clinic that Darryl, Michonne, Cutty and DeAngelo Barksdale have to run away from because they ran over too many zombies? No problem! Just do what Cutty did. Chill and lay back in the cut while you’re surrounded by walkers and then start to hack away at them and when your friends leave you behind, make a dramatic entrance and be like “Hey, guys. I’m still alive.” Works every time.

Someone asked me what I thought about Lorde today, and I realized that this blog is long overdue. I’m sure everyone has heard “Royals” more times than they care to admit, and it’s pretty difficult not to sing along. Her second US single, “Team” dropped recently, and it’s pretty catchy too. Her voice is seriously hard to ignore, as is the fact that she’s only SIXTEEN. That’s six years younger than me. I feel like such an underachiever. But there is something about her that doesn’t sit right with me. I’ve done my research to come to these conclusions; read interview transcripts, found articles, overall just stalked her life a little bit. She’s a feminist with contradictory viewpoints, and that pisses me off a little. Read the rest of this entry »

1390585_10151991687472682_131670613_nBoston Red Sox outfielder, Jonny Gomes hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to lift this team to a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4 of the World Series on Sunday. The win evened out the best of seven series, 2-2.

The Cardinals threatened a few times, but never succeeded.

St. Louis had one more effort to mount a comeback, but Red Sox closer Koji Uehara, made sure that wouldn’t happen. Kolten Wong was on first base for the Cardinals and was picked off to end the game.

291657Matt Kenseth did the unspeakable on Sunday afternoon at Martinsville Speedway, beating Jimmie Johnson.

But it was Johnson’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Jeff Gordon, who was able to pass Kenseth and hold on to the lead to win his first race of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup season and his first Martinsville Speedway race in almost eight years.

“It’s hard to top what it feels like to win, especially when you’ve been through what this [No. 24] team has been through,” Gordon said on ESPN Victory Lane. “I’m so proud of them for never giving up. We’ve shown it all year long and we’ve been through a lot, but  this is making it all worth it.” Read the rest of this entry »

VIctor Cruz suplex
OUCH!  Victor Cruz of the New York Giants was just given a suplex by two Philadelphia Eagles defenders and his prognosis doesn’t look good.  Seriously, this “tackle” looks like a WWE tag-team finishing move. Word is that he is in for x-rays on his neck.  I hope he is back out there soon.

UPDATE: Cruz has returned to the game in the 3rd quarter.

World Series - Boston Red Sox v St Louis Cardinals - Game Three

Photo courtesy of SB Nation/Jamie Squire

The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Boston Red Sox 5-4 tonight in game 3 of the World Series on an absolutely CRAZY play. In the bottom of the 9th inning, the Cards had Allen Craig on second base and Yadier Molina on third base with one out. Keep in mind that these two might be the two slowest runners in major league baseball.  Jon Jay then hits a rocket to second base and Dustin Pedroia fires home to get the lead footed Molina. Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia. makes the dumb decision to try to throw out Craig at third base, and the ball sails past third baseman Will Middlebrooks into foul territory in left field. When Craig tries to get up and run home, he trips over Middlebrooks and gets thrown out at the plate. BUT…third base umpire Jim Joyce was right on top of the play and ruled that Middlebrooks interfered with Craig, and awarded him home plate.

Check out the crazy play after the jump.

Darrell Wallace Jr.

This afternoon at Martinsville Speedway, Darrell Wallace Jr. became the first African American driver to win on NASCAR’s national level since 1963, with his victory in the Kroger 200. Wendell Scott won in Jacksonville, Fla., in December of 1963 in what is now known as the Sprint Cup Series.

“We congratulate Darrell Wallace Jr. on his first national series victory, one that will be remembered as a remarkable moment in our sport’s history,” NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France said in a statement.
