MTV’s The Challenge Free Agents Episode 12 “A Walk In The Clouds” Recap, Reactions, And Fantasy Scoring

On tonight’s episode of MTV’s The Challenge Free Agents, “A Walk In The Clouds”, we join the final challenge in progress. Bananas and Laurel were well on their way to winning the first of the five stages in their kayak, and Johnny and Nany were about five minutes behind. But, when the last episode ended, Zach and Devyn had just fallen out of their kayak and Zach was nowhere to be found.

Luckily for Devyn and Zach, everything turned out OK and they safely made it ashore.

Bananas/Laurel – 40 Min
Johnny/Nany – 44 min 53 sec
Zach/Devyn – 58 min 21 sec

Stage 2 was a 10k run, followed by a puzzle at the end. Teams were as follows:

Johnny/Laurel
Zach/Nany
Bananas/Devyn

As expected, Johnny and Laurel got out to a big lead. They are by far the best long distance runners. Another thing that I would have bet my left testicle on was that at one point Bananas was carrying Devyn on his back. Watching this girl in a final makes me want to punch myself in the face for watching it. She has no business being here and is a total waste. By the time everyone made it to the puzzle, they were dead tired. But as usual, the puzzle was unusual. There were the names of 14 cities written on slices of a tree and they needed to be stacked from the southern most city to the northernmost. Johnny and Laurel and Zach and Nany couldn’t figure it out and took the fill 30 minutes. Bananas and Devyn on the other hand figured out that these were cut out of the same log. So instead of worrying about the cities, they lined all the pieces up to make the log complete. They were so far behind at one point, but made up a ton of time by only taking a few minutes instead of worrying about the cities.

Johnny/Laurel 1 hour 23 min
Zach/Nany 1 hour 30 min
Bananas/Devyn 1 hour 34 min

The next challenge was a trail hike. But this was no ordinary trail hike. Not when you need to take a harness and climbing gear with you. Teams were as follows:

Zach/Laurel
Bananas/Nany
Johnny/Devyn

Teams started 15 minutes apart for safety reasons. After 100 yards, Devyn was completely gassed, Zach was cramping after 5 minutes, and when Nany had to traverse rocks/boulders, she spotted a tarantula and freaked out like I’ve never seen anyone freak out before. Holy shit girl, just move over and go around it! Zach and Laurel had a 15 minute lead and with Zach’s cramping and acting like a 3 year old, that lead vanished by the time they got to the top of the mountain they had to climb. Zach has to be by far, the biggest pussy I have seen on the Challenge. This guy is HUGE and yet his muscles are cramping NON STOP. Dude, grab a god damn Gatorade or at worst, drank the water that’s in the backpack you are wearing. How on earth can you get dehydrated like that? Not to mention, his attitude was that of a kid who just got his toy taken away in the sandbox. I’m glad Laurel gave him hell and reminded him the way he treated Sam a few challenges ago. I guess when you are lying on the ground and yelling at your partner and calling her “a dumb bitch” over and over, you deserve whatever fate you get.

Bananas/Nany 2 hrs 19 min
Johnny/ Devyn 2 hrs 39 min
Zach/Laurel 2 hrs 52 min

At stage 4, the individual portion of the final challenge started. There were six stationary bikes and each competitor had to bike 25 miles on the bike before getting to go to bed. The challenge started at 10:50 at night and it was 36 degrees. Within 10 minutes, Zach starts in again with his shit and the cramping. Good god dude, just quit so everyone doesn’t have to hear your bitching and moaning. Bananas absolutely ripped through the 25 miles in 61 minutes. The temperature kept dropping and mental fatigue started to show. Nany nearly had a mental breakdown. She got off the bike and wanted to quit, yelling at the producers that she couldn’t feel her feet because they were too cold. They told her to get back on or she’d be disqualified. She did, and kept pedaling.

Bananas 61 min
Johnny 1 hour 23 min
Zach 1 hour 31 min
Laurel 1 hour 32 min
Nany 1 hour 50 min
Devyn 2 hours 43 min – another pathetic performance. She nearly quit…again

The final stage was a race up to the summit of the volcano. Just like Bananas anticipated when they got to the log cabin in Chile. There really wasn’t anything exciting about this race, but once again the focus was on how big of a bitch Zach is and how out of shape Devyn is. I wish they just left these two on the side of the Volcano. Honestly. Just pathetic. Johnny beat Bananas up to the top 2 hours 4 min to 2 hours 36 min, and Laurel edged out Nany by 4 seconds. 3 hours 10 min 38 sec to 3 hours 10 min and 42 sec.

It was quite obvious that Zach and Devyn were in 3rd place. For their pathetic efforts, they are going home with $15k. For the girls, there was a 9 minute total difference in times over the 5 stages between Laurel and Nany. Adding the times up I didn’t get a 9 minute difference, and I got Nany winning. But TJ Lavin said that Laurel won.

Laurel Nany
40 45
83 90
172 139
92 110
190 190

577 574

Maybe my math is wrong, which it has been known to be, but I really thought Nany won. During the Challenge Reunion there was no mention of this, so I’m probably wrong. As for the guys, for the 5th time, Bananas was the champion. I really though Johnny had a shot at winning this, but it just wasn’t meant to be.

This season was awesome and I’m sad to see it end already. It was a great format and I hope they do something like this again. There has already been rumors circulating around the internet about the next season, and it seems as if another “Rivals” type thing is in the works. I really liked that format and thought that it brought out some real good teamwork from otherwise big time enemies.

Before I get to the fantasy scoring, I want to thank everyone who reads this recap every week. I never thought that it would get as many views as it does and I really appreciate it. You all realize that it’s not a perfect recap all the time, but you seem to enjoy the originality of it. Thank you. Please give our blog a follow on Twitter and like us on Facebook. I’m going to work on doing some kind of reader contest involving The Challenge next season, so share the article and hopefully The Challenge community can get involved.
