Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah hosted a successful edition of WWE Night of Champions. The event highlights are World Heavyweight Title Final, Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championship matches, Intercontinental Title Match, and Undisputed Tag Team Championship Match. Here are your WWE Night of Champions 2023 Winners, Grades, and Analysis.
AJ Styles vs Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins and AJ Styles opened the show to a massive crowd reaction. For a while, the audience sang Rollins’ theme, as we have seen regularly in the last two months. It was a great back-and-forth encounter. AJ performed a superplex on the apron as well as a reverse superplex. Styles briefly kept Rollins down with a backflip DDT. Rollins hit a frog splash and a buckle bomb, but Styles kicked out. We saw Styles’ Calf Crusher. They also performed the famous Shawn Michaels-Shelton Benjamin scene in which Seth kicks AJ out of the air while Styles attempts a Phenomenal Forearm. Rollins eventually won the match with a pedigree and a stomp. Rollins received the Title from Triple H, who was present backstage.
Winner: Seth Rollins
Grade = A
Seth Rollins and Aj Styles are known for great matches with any opponent. So, this match was outstanding. It was a great start to this night. Seth Rollins was the most deserving person to win this title.
Trish Stratus vs Becky Lynch
The 2nd match of the night saw Hall of Famer Trish Stratus facing the future Hall of Famer Becky Lynch. Lynch wore ring gear modeled after the Kill Bill movie, while Trish dressed for her first-ever women’s Raw main event match versus Lita. The bout started with Stratus in the lead. A tornado DDT passed past her, but Lynch escaped. Becky then countered with an exploder suplex and a middle rope leg-drop for a close call. Trish managed to escape from DisArmHer. When she placed her foot on the rope to end the count, she also avoided The Manhandle Slam. In the end, Zoey Stark appeared out of nowhere, shocking everyone. She nailed Lynch with her finisher, allowing Trish to use Stratusfaction to secure the victory. In the end, Becky’s nose was broken open.
Winner: Trish Stratus
WWE wisely chose to keep up this feud because viewers seem interested in it. Zoey Stark’s participation demonstrates that WWE has high hopes for her on the main roster. She made a great choice by teaming up with Stratus to battle Becky. She will pick up a lot of knowledge from two of the top WWE female wrestlers.
Gunther vs Mustafa Ali
Ali was welcomed with open arms, and compliments showered upon him on his outstanding ring attire. Ali entered this battle as a heavy underdog, yet he performed superbly. Gunther employed his deadly skills. Ali took advantage of his quickness. When Mustafa hit the tornado DDT, he was able to breathe a sigh of relief, but he was unable to connect the 450 splashes. Gunther utilized a powerbomb to keep the title.
It was a quick, entertaining match demonstrating Ali’s skill in the ring. He is also a master at selling moves, as we witnessed in this match. WWE should take advantage of this opportunity to support Mustafa Ali going forward.
Asuka vs Bianca Belair
A WrestleMania rematch saw Asuka challenge Bianca Belair again for the Raw Women’s Championship. It was a competitive match of high caliber. Asuka’s immediate attention was on harming Belair’s arm. With a backbreaker, Bianca returned. Asuka attempted to throw the mist but was unsuccessful. She did, though, wipe some mist into Belair’s eyes with her palm. Asuka won the title moments after by using a head kick.
At Night of Champions, Bianca’s 400+ day reign ended. It is up for dispute whether it was the ideal time to wrap up the legendary reign. Fans would want to see WWE convert Bianca into a heel. At Backlash, we witnessed her supporters turn against her as she faced Iyo Sky. The same thing occurred here as Asuka received applause from the audience.
Natalya vs Rhea Ripley
The fight for the SmackDown Women’s Championship was a complete squash match. As the bell rang, the Champion, Rhea Ripley, annihilated Natalya. On her birthday, the Queen of Harts did nothing.
Winner: Rhea Ripley
Dominik and Ripley make an impressive team. The selection of respectable opponents for Rhea is one thing that WWE should take seriously. She appears on the current roster because of Judgment Day. WWE needs to involve her in a meaningful opponent sooner rather than later.
Cody Rhodes vs Brock Lesnar
The audience applauded Cody Rhodes with cheers. He wore a brace around his arm. Brock’s opening move was a belly-to-belly suplex. Cody made a comeback when he forced Lesnar out of the ring by using his cast as a weapon, followed by a suicide dive. From the top rope, Rhodes also employed a double ax handle. Brock was aiming for the broken arm. He used the Kimura Lock, but Cody managed to escape. He responded to an F5 with his Cross Rhodes for a close call. Ultimately, Brock Lesnar was declared the winner after Cody collapsed while being placed in the Kimura Lock.
Winner: Brock Lesnar
The storytelling was on point in this match. There is still a lot more to this story. Let’s wait and watch what happens when these two meet. The in-ring action was not mattered when two performers told a story like this.
Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens vs Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa
The main event was a contest for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships. Zayn spoke to the crowd on the microphone in Arabic. It wasn’t about how good the wrestling was; it was all narrative that it builds for the future of WWE SmackDown. Roman accidentally speared the official that, opened an opportunity for outside interference. At the ringside, Jimmy and Jey attacked KO. They attempted a double superkick to Zayn in the ring but unintentionally kicked Solo. The Tribal Chief became infuriated by it and began shoving Jimmy and Jey. Jimmy gave Roman Reigns a superkick because he didn’t like it.
Jey attempts to stop him, declaring, “I am doing what you should have done a long time ago.” Roman received another monster kick from Jimmy, and The Usos left. KO stunned Solo before Sami Zayn delivered the winning Helluva Kick. Roman’s expression alternated between shock and rage as Zayn and Owens cheered to end the event. It was a great finish to this match.
Winner: Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens
It was a great development in The Bloodline story. All of this leads to a potential match between The Usos, Roman Reigns, and Sikoa. It will give them something meaningful if the Usos and Roman Reigns decide without participating in any title fights. However, KO and Sami should now go on to new opponents.
