It’s time for some road course racing from Road America and Infineon Raceway!!! Who’s ready? This time of year always gets me pumped up. Summer is finally here and the Chase for the Sprint Cup is heating up. Infineon Raceway, or Sonoma as many NASCAR fans know it, has been known to produce a first time track winner in the past seven races. Can this weekend be the eighth or will a previous race winner at the track come in and break the streak? Let’s get ready for some left AND right handed turns this weekend as the NASCAR Nationwide Series and Sprint Cup Series take to the road course.

For years the NCAA has relied on the polls and Bowl Championship Series(BCS) bowls to crown their national champion in football. Something that has enraged many football fans around the country, wondering why teams just can’t throw the BCS out the window and settle it on the field, like every other NCAA sport – with a playoff.

It looks like the people in charge are finally seeing what the fans in the stands are talking about.

A major college football playoff, even though it is a small one, is closer to being a reality. The BCS have backed a plan for a four-team playoff with the sites for the national semifinals rotating among the major bowl games, those being the Fiesta, Orange, Sugar, and Rose, and a selection committee picking the participants for each. The plan will be presented to each of the university presidents next week for approval.

Once approved, expect the new playoff system to start in 2014. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s over! Dale Earnhardt, Jr’s. 143 race streak has been broken. Fans can rejoin and NASCAR can move onto something more important, like when is Jeff Gordon going to win a race? Sorry, I just had to say it. Now that I’ve gotten the obligatory Earnhardt talk out of the week for this week, let’s preview the Toyota/Save Mart 350 from Infineon Raceway.

Summer is finally here for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. It’s time for some great racing as we get closer to the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

Speaking of Jeff Gordon, he is a five-time winner Sonoma winner, and his last win was in 2006 before the Car of Tomorrow as introduced into the Sprint Cup series.

The last seven races at the raceway have produced seven different winners including last year when Kurt Busch led 76 of the 110 laps and beat Gordon by 2.685 seconds. The win was also Busch’s first on a road course. Busch will be pulling double duty this weekend, traveling to Wisconsin for the Sargento 250 at Road America.

Double duty was probably a bad idea for the driver of the No. 51 Phoenix Racing Chevrolet, but at least he is getting some seat time for the road course. Right? Read the rest of this entry »

Last week at Michigan International Speedway, Joey Logano showed the boys just how fast his Toyota Camry could be, while he isn’t in the race this weekend could Michael McDowell end up in victory lane for Joe Gibbs Racing?

A true NASCAR Nationwide series driver will be able to win this weekend, as the NASCAR Sprint Cup boys are in Sonoma, California and known of them are taking the trip to Wisconsin.

Last year in this race,

Last weekend at Michigan International Speedway, Joey Logano showed the Nationwide Series just how fast his Camry was and ended up in Victory Lane again in 2012 and while he isn’t in the race this weekend, can Michael McDowell bring the No. 18 to Gatorade Victory Lane for Joe Gibbs Racing?

One of the best things about Road America is that is the longest track in NASCAR’s national series at 4.048 miles, and with one Sprint Cup series regular completing in the Nationwide Series this weekend, expect a true Nationwide Series driver to win the race. Read the rest of this entry »
